PHYSICAL EDUCATION GRADING POLICY

1. Each student is graded on participation, sportsmanship, preparation, skill, and knowledge of any given sport or activity unit.

2. Everyday a student can accumulate 0-10 participation points.

3. At the end of every 10-week quarter the participation points are added together for a participation grade. The participation grade is worth 50% of the student's overall grade.

4. The ability of a student to effectively perform the necessary skills of a unit is worth 25% of the student's overall grade.

5. The knowledge that a student needs to acquire during an activity is worth 25% of the student's overall grade.

6. Since the majority of the student's grade is based on participation, chronic absenteeism will result in a lower grade including failure.

7. An excused absence may be made up within 1 week. If the absence is not made up the student will receive a 0 for the day. Any additional  zeros will result in a 10% deduction (per 0) from the students overall grade.  The absence will be made up in the form of a short (1) page summary.

8. An unexcused absence will result in a 0 for the day. This grade can not be made up.

9. All students are required to change into proper PE attire which includes shorts and a tee shirt, sweat pants and a sweat shirt and sneakers.   Be prepared to go outside in cool weather.  Students will be allowed to wear his/or her school clothes 2x's a semester.  If a student exceeds this number credit will not be given and the students will be asked to stay after school to make up the credit. 

10. A gym lock will be issued to students.  If the lock is lost the students must purchase a lock for him/her self. They may purchase one for themselves at anytime 

11. The PE department will not tolerate any bullying, harassing or intimidating of students.  Any student that is involved in such behavior will be warned.  If the behavior persists the student will be removed from the activity and disciplined according the Berlin Central School District handbook then change the numbers accordingly.
