Sight Word Practice Activities
·
Create flash cards for the sight words your child does
not know. Have your child identify the sight word and then use it in a
sentence.
·
Say – Write – Spell and Check This is a great way
for young learners to memorize words and it is quick and easy. The
child says the word, writes the word and then covers the word and writes
it from memory. The child then checks his or her spelling after writing
it from memory.
·
Sight Word Search – Circle sight words in the newspaper
or magazines. Students could also point out and read sight words in
books you may be reading together.
·
Fancy Letters - Use old magazines, catalogs, or
newspapers to cut out letters and glue them down to spell the words
·
Sight Word Baseball - Draw four bases on a piece of paper
or set up four chairs to be the bases. Pitcher selects a word. If batter
can read it correctly, he moves forward one base. If batter cannot read
the word, he remains where he is. Child receives a point every time he
passes home base.
