Time Management Tips
- Prioritize
your time. You'll have to make choices about your activities if you want
to do well in school.
- Avoid
stress, burnout and failure by planning your work.
- Pack
your school materials the night before so that you wont
have to scramble early in the morning.
- Use
a planning calendar to keep track of all the tasks you have to accomplish
each day.
- If
you don't have a syllabus or a planning calendar, be sure to write down
your homework instead of trying to just remember it.
- Learn
the material the first time you see it. DOn't delay your learning until
the night before a test.
- Use
your class time fully. If you have a few minutes to spare in class, use
that time to review your notes or to start your homework rather than to
just stare at the clock.
- Study
your most difficult or boring subject first while
you are most alert.
- Think
of the little blocks of time that most of us waste as potential work time.
When you have an extra 15 minutes, plan to use it for a quick review of
your notes.
- Work
steadily. Cramming all night is not productive.
- Learn
to use a computer. You'll get the job done much faster than if you try to
do everything by hand.
- When
you have a big project to do, set deadlines for accomplishing parts of it
well in advance of the final deadline.
- Pace
yourself by watching the clock during a timed assignment.
- Set
aside a 2 hour block of time each night for studying. Even on the nights
when you don't have assignments, you should spend this block of time
reviewing and studying.
- Avoid
study sessions that last for hours. After a while your concentration
begins to lag. Instead take a 3-5 minute break every 30 minutes or so.
- Become
aware of the time of day when you are most alert and use it to study
efficiently.
- Complete
your homework the night before it is due. Don't count on stealing time
form other classes to finish what you
should have done at home.
- Schedule
several small bits of time to finish a long term project. Try to turn in
your projects early.
- Don't
spend too much time on a particular subject if this causes you to neglect
other topics.
- Do
all tasks well the first time so that you don't have to repeat them.
- Become
aware of just how and when you procrastinate. Take the steps necessary to
get this bad habit under control.
- Use
your daylight hours to study as often as you can. Most people are more
alert then.
- Allow
enough time to study. Five minutes before a big test just isn't enough.
- Looking
over your notes is a huge waste of time. Study actively with a pen in
hand. Write down the information.
- Learn
to concentrate. In class and when you are studying at home, make sure you
focus your energy into learning.
- Attend
class. those students who attend class do better
than those who don't. Be one of them.
- Make
"doing your best" a priority. You are the person who
determines your present and future.
