To encourage more young women (ages 16-19) to participate in public affairs by recognizing a commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievements and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.

Chief Executives Network for Manufacturing Scholarship (CEN)

 

$1,000 scholarships awarded to applicants who are:

 

High school seniors graduating in 2012 and accepted at an accredited two or  four year college, university, or trade school; or

 

College students enrolled in an accredited two or four year college, university or trade school;

 

Students planning to enroll in a major which can lead to qualifying for a position with a manufacturer;

 

Residents of one of the following eleven Capital Region counties: Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, Warren, and Washington.

The Upper Hudson River Quality Deer Management Association

 

We are pleased to announce a newly minted college scholarship program for 2012.  Up to 2/$500 - scholarships will be awarded at our annual QDMA banquet in March. The winners will be selected by a committee made up of our board members and based on your written essay concerning QDMA.  The preferred applicant will be familiar with the ideals of Quality Deer Management and will be pursuing a degree in a field of study that would contribute to the enhancement of the organization. To be eligible for the scholarship, qualified applicants will possess the following:

 

A basic knowledge of QDMA

 

Enrollment in or acceptance to a degree granting institution

 

Preference will be given to students studying the Environmental or Agricultural Sciences. (All majors are encouraged to apply if they are able to present how their chosen field will positively impact Quality Deer Management.)

KFC Colonel’s Scholars

 

KFC Colonel’s Scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for the KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program.  Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board.

 

To qualify, a student must:

Earn a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75

Enroll in a public college or university within their state of legal residence

Plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree

Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Demonstrate financial need

Poster Contest – “The Importance of Wastewater Treatment”

 

Participants:  All middle and high school artists and environmentalists - one poster per student.

 

Posters must contain original hand-drawn (no computer generated posters or graphics) artwork.  Copyrighted characters (such as Superman, Sponge Bob, etc.) and clip art will not be accepted.

 

Award:  Winners receive a check for $50.00; eight other students in the top five will receive a check for $25.00.  Students in the top five receive an engraved plague.  All participants will receive a certificate of appreciation.

 

Both winning posters will be printed and distributed to municipal wastewater treatment plants throughout NYS.

“Ned Carter” Scholarship

 

We are pleased to announce our “Ned Carter” Scholarship availability of four $1,500.00 scholarships to New York State High School Seniors who will be graduating in June of 2012.  The student must be related to or be a Firefighter in an affiliated member organization of the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York and must reside within New York State.

 

To be considered for this honor, applications must be postmarked by the first Saturday in March and mailed to AFDSNY Scholarship Committee, c/o Lawrence A. Pierce, P.O. Box 669, Mendon, NY  14506.  The Scholarships will be awarded at the schools’ Senior Awards Ceremony.

2012 Astrobiology Short Story Contest – Grades 9-12

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

 

This contest is sponsored by the New York Center for Astrobiology, a member of NASA’s Astrobiology Institute program, headquartered at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. 

 

Open to all students in grades 9 – 12 from Connecticut, New York, and Vermont.  Eligible student within that grade-range can be from public schools, private schools, and home schools.  Entries must have a minimum of 500 words to a maximum of 1600 words.  Entries need to be received no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, March 2, 2012.
