My Grandpa By Samantha S
My Grandpa is more than my Grandpa but my father as well. His name is Albert Hoffman; he is married to a wonderful woman, Beverly Hoffman, and they have been married for years. My Grandpa is the only man I have had in my life since my father left, besides my brother. He would always play with me and bring me to school, games, or work. He was there for anything that I needed. When I was younger, I remember always canning vegetables with him, and I always ate the corn faster than he could freeze it. We would feed than animals together in the barn. I remember the tractor my Grandpa has; I thought it was the biggest thing ever, and he would always sit behind me on the seat and let me drive the tractor. Every day after I helped him do the chores, at 11:30 we would go into the house and eat lunch. We would sit in the living room and always watch The Price Is Right followed by the news at noon. I have so many good memories with my Grandpa. If it were not for him, I probably would not be the way I am today. He has taught me so much: how to ride a bike, how to drive a lawn mower, and how to cook. There is so much that he has done for me; no matter when it was or where he was, he would drop it all just to help me. Now that I am older and can do all the things he used to do for me, I guess it is time that I start to help him. Let me explain… A couple of days ago my Grandpa was having chest pains, and they were not going away, so my Grandma drove him to the hospital, St. Mary’s. I was miserable; I did not know what to do without him. The next day he was to come home, but only 3% of his heart was working, so they took him to Albany Med. The worst part of it all was that I could not be there because I had to work. My Grandpa had five hours of surgery to have a pace maker put in his heart. My Grandpa is okay, but for now, he cannot move his left arm because of the surgery. He needs help cutting his food, putting his shoes on, feeding the animals, simple things that people take for granted. My Grandpa can never use a chainsaw or gun again, which is going to kill him. However, I will be there to help him to recovery just as he did for me all those times when I was sick. I love my Grandpa, not only my Grandpa but my father also. I thank God every day that he is okay. I am glad that I can give back to him the way have given to me my whole life. |
