1. Each student is graded on participation, sportsmanship, preparation, skill, and knowledge of any given sport or activity unit. 2. Everyday a student can accumulate 0-10 participation points. 3. At the end of every 10-week quarter the participation points are added together for a participation grade. The participation grade is worth 50% of the student's overall grade. 4. The ability of a student to effectively perform the necessary skills of a unit is worth 25% of the student's overall grade. 5. The knowledge that a student needs to acquire during an activity is worth 25% of the student's overall grade. 6. Since the majority of the student's grade is based on participation, chronic absenteeism will result in a lower grade including failure. 7. An excused absence may be made up within 1 week. If the absence is not made up the student will receive a 0 for the day. The absence will be made up in the form of a short (1) page summary. 8. An unexcused absence will result in a 0 for the day. This grade can not be made up. 9. All students are required to change into proper P.E. attire. This includes sneakers, a tee shirt or sweatshirt and shorts or sweats pants. Students should be prepared to go outside in cool weather! A gym lock will be issued to students. You may also provide a lock for your child as long as his/her P.E. teacher is given the combination or key. 10. It is always our intention for each student to attend and enjoy physical education. These policies exist to ensure a healthy, safe, and secure environment. We would appreciate your assistance in these matters. 11. Athletes are expected to participate in every physical education class regardless of his or her practice or same schedule.
