ELEMENTARY
DRESS CODE FOR THE
The purpose of an elementary dress code is
to help promote the health and safety of all students at the elementary level
in the
According to the Berlin C.S.D. Policy
5.310.02 “Dress Code” the term “inappropriate clothing” as used in this
document “shall include, but not be limited to, clothing containing commentary,
illustrations, or innuendo promoting the use of alcohol or drugs, vulgar,
sexual or indecent themes or expressions; an obscene or pornographic pictures
or references. Inappropriate clothing
shall also be clothing that contains commentary, illustrations or innuendo that
depict or suggest violence, hate or the denigration of a particular gender,
race, religion, ethnic or other group or person. Inappropriate clothing shall also be clothing
that is otherwise distracting, and may disrupt the educational process, or is
otherwise lewd or offensive.”
A
student’s dress, grooming, and appearance at all times while on School
premises
shall:
1. Be
safe, appropriate and not disrupt or interfere with one’s learning or the learning
of others.
2. Cover
all undergarments at all times.
3. Not
include shirts, blouses, dresses or other garments that expose one’s chest.
4. Cover
all parts of the midriff area at all times, (sitting and standing).
5. Not
include any garment with “spaghetti straps” or straps with any width less than one inch.
6. Not
include pants, shorts, skirts, dresses, or other garments that do not fully cover one’s lower back.
7. Not
include any garment that is considered pajamas.
8.
Include footwear at all times that is considered safe.
9.
Include shorts, skirts, dresses, and other garments that have a length that exceeds
one inch below one’s fingertips (measured by having student stand straight with arms and hands laid
straight at their side).
10. Not
include wearing hats, hoods or other garments that cover one’s face.
11. Not
include any accessories that compromise one’s safety or the safety of others. Chains that dangle from pockets to wallets,
thick or heavy chains, spiked
bracelets, necklaces, or any garment with a pointed edge that could cause injury, and all other accessories
which cause undue distraction or attention are not
to be worn to school.
If students do not follow the guidelines in
this dress code, they may be asked to modify their appearance by covering,
removing, or replacing a garment.
